Orgasm gaps. Divorce rates. INCELs. #MeToo. While we are constantly bombarded with images of sexuality in mainstream media, we continue to struggle with sexual dynamics as both individuals and as a society. How do we shift the paradigm from one of unhealthy “scripted” expectations to one which promotes authentic and healthy sexual communication? In Part 1 of this talk, we will set the stage by discussing the nature of pervasive, unhealthy communication dynamics, and how they impact our relationships (both with self and others). We will also examine how integrated, authentic self-assessment shifts this paradigm. In Part 2, we will examine both intellectual and somatic techniques that can be used to foster greater self-awareness that, when combined with healthy relationship skills can be used to promote fuller, richer sexual communication.

By the end of this course participants will be able to:
  • Identify and discuss societal and individual repercussions of unhealthy sexual communication
  • Compare differences between unhealthy “scripted” communication and “The Dance”
  • Practice intellectual and somatic exercises that create foundational skills for healthy communication
  • Integrate individual somatic and intellectual practices into partnered communication
